Over the weekend we moved around the furniture in our house in an effort to connect our learning space (formerly the dining room) with the living room to create one learning space. I like to think of it as a learning studio, where I can tutor students, hold art classes, and a place where my kids can read and do their homework in a comfortable and inspiring space. The beautiful wood cabinet holds a few of my learning materials but mostly the kids’ rock and mineral collection, which is also displayed in vintage printer’s trays.

We switched out the TV for bookcases and brought in smaller furniture pieces to create more floor space for play and for the piano. I had noticed that when the TV was on we were less likely to use the table in for creative projects or crafts. I was wasting a lot of time binge watching shows while “working”. I have been more productive and focused in my work now that the TV is another room.

I have always wanted to have kid-friendly home. I have wonderful memories of visiting my Tios Schober when I was a little girl. They always made me feel welcome and loved when I was in their home. In the family room, they kept a side table with coloring books, crayons, and small toys. My Tio would play or color on the floor with me. I want my kids, our friends and family who visit to feel as welcome as I did when I visited my Tios.

I have my eye on the beautiful vintage posters from Reforma Sthlm. I would love to have The Systems of Colors poster or the Periodic Table of Elements poster for the empty wall in the photo below but I absolutely love the Minerals vintage poster to place between the bookcases in the home library area. The photo below shows the current state of our learning space.
In my next few posts I’ll share how we’re using the new space. Hopefully, I’ll have a gallery wall to show you too. 🙂
