Happy New Year! In January, I will celebrate my blog’s first anniversary. I am very thankful for having this space to write and share my ideas about our learning environment and interest-based learning. I often share photos of my home and the ways we use our space for learning, homework, and making. It is importantContinue reading Six Steps for Decorating Your Home →

A Kid-Friendly Home

November 15, 2018December 29, 2018 Maria Arana2 Comments

Over the weekend we moved around the furniture in our house in an effort to connect our learning space (formerly the dining room) with the living room to create one learning space.  I like to think of it as a learning studio, where I can tutor students, hold art classes, and a placeContinue reading A Kid-Friendly Home →

Creative Thinking

When many of us think about creativity we think of the arts.  I often imagine an artist painting in a studio or a musician composing music but creative thinking also exists in mathematics, science, and athletics.  Children exhibit interest in different areas and we can encourage the behaviors that lead to creative thinkingContinue reading Creative Thinking →

A Creative Space

During my Master’s program, I had the opportunity to take a creativity class.  The class helped me explore the nature of creativity, examine the life of current creative people, and think about how we encourage creativity in different settings.  Learning about creativity is what prompted me to turn the formal dining room into a creativeContinue reading A Creative Space →

Spending Time Together

February 6, 2018January 7, 2019 Maria AranaLeave a comment

The last couple of weekends have been a little busy for our family.  Saturdays seem to belong to the kids’ sport meets, games, or practice.  We feel worn out when the weekends are busy and don’t include time to refresh or relax. During busy weekends, it feels extra important to find ways to connect and spendContinue reading Spending Time Together →

Welcome

Welcome to the Guided Learning Studio! I’m Maria. A mom of three and a former classroom teacher turned tutor. I am committed to providing engaging learning experiences based on a learner’s needs and interests.

✏️After eight delightful years, Guided Learning Studio is closing. 🌻My happy place 🥰 Beautiful Pima Canyon Trail in Tucson. My daughter and I took a lovely sweets class with @wagashiissho while visiting Kyoto. Learning to make chrysanthemum wagashi was a special experience. Kyoto is also a magical place with ethereal gardens. 🧚🏽‍♀️ Fairy Garden 🧚🏾‍♀️ Learning to watercolor with tutorials from @letsgomakeart . This Italy tutorial from their #wanderlust kit is a favorite. Happy New Year! Work desk turned creative spot for 2023. Exploring oil pastel and color with inspo from @pearfleur video. 👩🏽‍🎨 I finally gave our maker space some attention. A clean table for a holiday season of painting & crafting. 🎨🎄
