Spending Time Together

The last couple of weekends have been a little busy for our family.  Saturdays seem to belong to the kids’ sport meets, games, or practice.  We feel worn out when the weekends are busy and don’t include time to refresh or relax. During busy weekends, it feels extra important to find ways to connect and spendContinue reading Spending Time Together →

Early Mornings

*contains affiliate links Last week, the kids’ bedtime came and went one evening.  Suddenly they were interested in math.  My 11-year-old decided it was a good time to start pre-algebra and my 6-year-old thought doing some multiplication was a good idea.  I let them work for a awhile before sending them to bed.  I thoughtContinue reading Early Mornings →

Galaxy Art

The enthusiasm for space continues!  Yesterday, the kids looked at photos of galaxies and stars in books and online.  My 11-year-old and 6-year-old each used different materials to make a picture of a galaxy. My daughter experimented with Maya Mists spray paints (from a crafty friend) and some acrylic paint to make her image. (WeContinue reading Galaxy Art →

I recently realized that tutoring has always been part of my life.  In high school I tutored students in math at the local middle school.  As an engineering student in college, I volunteered at a high school.  Tutoring is what led me to consider switching majors to education.  I enjoy the learning and teaching process andContinue reading Teaching at Home →

Welcome to our creative learning space! The summer of 2016 we moved into our current house and I decided to do away with the formal dining room to create a space where the family could make together. This is the first room you see when you walk into our house. I hope you enjoy getting aContinue reading Learning Studio Tour →

Space, Clay and Learning

January 12, 2018October 8, 2020 Maria AranaLeave a comment

My six-year-old has developed an interest in space.  He specifically asked to know more about the people who first landed on the moon.  I looked around our house for our space books and displayed them in our learning space for him to look at and read. On Wednesday he signed up to go the publicContinue reading Space, Clay and Learning →

Influences

January 10, 2018October 8, 2020 Maria AranaLeave a comment

I noticed early on that my children were curious and passionate about specific topics. Taking time to observe them as they play or to listen them talk about their interests allows me to choose materials that invite them to further explore and learn about a topic.  Their intense curiosity is what prompted me to provide them withContinue reading Influences →
